NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN HEALTH INFORMATICS & VIRTUAL REALITY

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN HEALTH INFORMATICS & VIRTUAL REALITY

“As a field drowning in information with a life-or-death need to understand it, healthcare is ripe to benefit from Artificial Intelligence.”

-John Glaser. Ph.D. Senior Vice President of Population Health, Cerner

The emerging use of AI in healthcare sector can be seen as a collection of technologies enabling machines to sense, comprehend, act and learn so they can perform administrative and clinical healthcare functions, as well as be used in research and for training purposes. Artificial intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML) and Deep learning (DL) enables healthcare organisation to analyse immense volume and variety of data with an improved capacity to collect huge sums of information and has led to the demand for big data analytics.

AI is ready to support physicians, customer service representatives and administrative staff by offering automation of clinical documentation, administrative workflow assistance, image analysis, virtual observation and patient outreach. The various stakeholders in the AI and healthcare ecosystem work together for a successful adoption and implementation of AI in healthcare. These stakeholders are practitioners. research and industry bodies, government, investors and developers.

Systematically curated health data helps in identifying correlations between novel disease and people would get the best treatments. Making electronic health records available to public and researchers will also enhance the research and development in the health industry.

For adopting Artificial Intelligence for Health Informatics in India, several strategies can be implemented such as enabling access to data, encouraging AI research and development, formulating a multi stakeholder plan for AI, pushing for adoption of AI by business and public sector, equipping existing and future labour forces with skills set to successfully adopt AI, design standards and appropriate certification system for health systems driven by AI, continuous monitoring and research into impact of AI and emphasize privacy and security.

Artificial Intelligence is playing a role in transformative changes in health and healthcare both in and out of clinical setting. It is shaping the future of public health, community health and healthcare delivery from a personal level to a system level.

ABOUT CENTRE FOR HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT

The Centre for Hospital Management (CHM) was set up in 2011 as a part of the School of Health System Studies. CHM is primarily focusing on research and development in the hospital industry in the public and private sectors. It is also contributing to improving the healthcare system by carrying out capacity building, publications, consultancies and working with various hospitals.

The centre has designed one full-time masters degree and two postgraduate diploma programmes for working professionals. The Master of Hospital Administration (MHA) is the leading programme of its type in the country and has had the legacy to attract the best talent of the nation. The two postgraduate diploma programmes are Executive Post Graduate Diploma in Hospital Administration (EPGDHA) and Post Graduate Diploma in Healthcare Quality Management (PGDHQM). The programmes have been set up to equip the senior hospital administrators and managers with the necessary managerial resources to help them manage their hospitals efficiently and effectively and also enhance their leadership capacities in a wide spectrum of the healthcare industry.

ABOUT SCHOOL OF HEALTH SYSTEMS STUDIES

In 1989, the Institute established the Department of Health Systems Studies, with the assistance of Ford Foundation. In the year 1993, the department added a feather in its cap by starting the Master in Hospital and Health Administration Programmes.

The School of Health Systems Studies prepares students for a leadership role in the fields of hospital and healthcare administration. The School’s active social research programmes and national and international research collaborations in areas of health policy, health systems strengthening and public health contributes to the generation of new knowledge in this area and ensures that its educational programmes are updated to respond to current challenges and emergent trends. An important dimension of the Schools’ educational and research activity is the contribution it makes to developing the understanding of health and health care as a social science.

The School is quite often called upon to respond to capacity building and knowledge management needs of the government health sector and this allows it to contribute to developing newer and innovative health care strategies, provide advocacy support for public health and build equity concerns into health policy and planning.
